SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 350 Commending LaTasha Colander-Richardson.

WHEREAS, LaTasha Colander-Richardson capped a brilliant track career by winning a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games as a member of the United States 4 x 400 meter relay team; and

WHEREAS, a native of Portsmouth, LaTasha Colander-Richardson is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and the University of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the 400 meter event, in which she was the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials champion, LaTasha Colander-Richardson has recorded world-class performances in the 200 meters and the 100 and 400 meter hurdles; and

WHEREAS, the 1994 USA Juniors champion in the 100 meter hurdles, LaTasha Colander-Richardson is a world record-holder as a member of the U.S. team that set a new world record in the 4 x 200 meter relay at the Penn Relays; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, LaTasha Colander-Richardson completed her outstanding collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, where she was a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion in the 100 meter hurdles; and

WHEREAS, despite competing for the first time in 2000 in the 400 meter event, LaTasha Colander-Richardson won the highly competitive U.S. Olympic Trials to earn her ticket to Sydney; and

WHEREAS, at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, LaTasha Colander-Richardson won the singular honor of running the anchor leg on the triumphant U.S. 4 x 400 meter relay team, winning a richly deserved gold medal and bringing honor to herself, her family, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate LaTasha Colander-Richardson on her Olympic gold medal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to LaTasha Colander-Richardson as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her stellar athletic accomplishments.
