2001 SESSION
018843500WHEREAS, the Potomac Falls High School girls' soccer team capped a perfect 2000 season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AA state soccer championship; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers from Loudoun County were dominant all year, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 135 goals to 7, including 52-6 in their post-season march to the championship; and
WHEREAS, the Potomac Falls Panthers won the Northwestern District title and the Region II tournament on their way to the state tournament, where they defeated the defending state champions from Jamestown High School, 4-0, in the quarterfinals; and
WHEREAS, after a hard-fought 4-2 victory over arch-rival Broad Run High School in the semifinals, the Panthers totally dominated Jefferson Forest High School, 11-0, to capture the state title; and
WHEREAS, the final victory was especially sweet for the Panthers' seniors, who scored the first four goals in the championship game, who endured a losing season in their first year on the team, and who enjoyed the extraordinary success of the 2000 team; and
WHEREAS, the state champion Potomac Falls girls' soccer team finished the 2000 season with a record of 23 victories in 23 games, a tribute to the skills, dedication, and teamwork of the players, the leadership of Head Coach Kris Kelican and his staff, and the enthusiastic support of the students, faculty, and staff of Potomac Falls High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Panthers of Potomac Falls High School; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Kris Kelican in honor of the triumphant 2000 season of the Potomac Falls High School girls' soccer team.
