WHEREAS, the Annual BASS Masters Classic brings together the premier bass anglers from across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the 30th BASS Masters Classic was held on Lake Michigan at Chicago, Illinois, on July 20-22, 2000; and
WHEREAS, Woo Daves from Spring Grove, Virginia, was the top-ranked qualifier from the BASSMASTER Eastern Invitational Tournament Trail; and
WHEREAS, Woo Daves was competing in his 15th BASS Masters Classic; and
WHEREAS, in previous events, Woo Daves had recorded a second place finish, along with two thirds, a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth; and
WHEREAS, in his first Classic at Currituck Sound in 1975, where he finished eighth, he was the youngest professional in the field at the age of 29; and
WHEREAS, in this 30th Classic, he was the oldest professional among the 46 contenders at the age of 54; and
WHEREAS, in one of the most challenging Classics ever staged, over the course of three days of fishing, Woo Daves brought in a total of 14 bass weighing 27 pounds, 13 ounces; and
WHEREAS, after 15 tries in a 25-year career as a professional bass angler, Woo Daves won bass fishing's most coveted and lucrative title, the BASS Masters Classic world championship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Woo Daves be hereby commended and congratulated on being the "best of the best" among professional bass anglers; and be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Woo Daves as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and best wishes.
