WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital has provided needed health care services to the citizens of Northern Virginia for 25 years through its acute service care and specialties in orthopedics and rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital opened its doors on October 26, 1976, as a 235-bed acute care hospital; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital received commendation from the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations from 1996 through 1999; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities; and
WHEREAS, in 1998 Inova Mount Vernon Hospital won the Mercury Award for the best orthopedics program in the Washington, D.C. metro area from America's Health Network and HCIA, a leading health research and information company; and
WHEREAS, HCIA named Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as one of the Top 100 hospitals in the nation for orthopedic care in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital operates Northern Virginia's only hyperbaric oxygen unit, which provides pure oxygen to patients in critical care situations, such as carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, or decompression sickness; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital houses a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, including "Easy Street," a city street replica offering simulations of real-life settings to help patients recovering from strokes and brain and spinal cord injuries develop skills to regain self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital houses the Inova Joint Replacement Center, where more than 1,000 knee and hip replacements are performed each year; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital provides a wide range of surgical, medical and critical care services including cardiac rehabilitation, oncology, emergency medicine, psychiatric care, breast health and dialysis care; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is currently a 232-bed hospital with a staff of approximately 1,120 people with 325 affiliated physicians that treated patients in 8,800 inpatient admissions, 38,000 outpatient visits, and 30,000 emergency department visits during the year 2000; and
WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is dedicated to serving the community by providing high-quality health care; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for its outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of citizens in the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for its dedication in establishing and maintaining a high standard for health care in Virginia.
