HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 745
Commending the Thomas Rolfe Branch, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.

WHEREAS, the Thomas Rolfe Branch, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities first met at Surry, Virginia, on October 6, 1925; and

WHEREAS, the Thomas Rolfe Branch was established to acquire, preserve and restore the historic property and structure now known as Smith's Fort Plantation in Surry County; and

WHEREAS, the Thomas Rolfe Branch purchased and restored the historic property; its members worked with the Garden Club of Virginia to restore the grounds and gardens; and the branch has assumed the responsibility for the maintenance and administration of the house and property; and

WHEREAS, through the efforts of the Thomas Rolfe Branch members, the people of Surry County and the Commonwealth have gained an historical treasure and an architectural gem; and

WHEREAS, over the past 75 years, the Thomas Rolfe Branch has brilliantly carried out the goals of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities: to preserve the physical reminders of Virginia's past through the restoration and conservation of historical properties, and to educate citizens and visitors about the contributions of Virginians to the founding and development of the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Thomas Rolfe Branch, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas Rolfe Branch, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for its fine work in preserving Virginia's historic heritage.
