HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 744 Offered January 12, 2001 Commending the Arlington County Bar Association. ---------- Patrons-- Almand, Brink and Darner; Senators: Howell, Ticer and Whipple ----------

WHEREAS, 2001 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Arlington County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1926, the Arlington County Bar Association currently has more than 550 members, along with honorary members that include district- and circuit-court judges, the Arlington Commonwealth's attorney and sheriff, and the clerk of the Arlington County Circuit Court; and

WHEREAS, for 75 years, the Arlington County Bar Association has operated to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of law, to strive to improve the professional competence of its members, to facilitate the administration of justice, and to cultivate the science of jurisprudence; and

WHEREAS, the Arlington County Bar Association also strives to preserve the high standards of integrity, dignity, honor, and courtesy among members of the legal profession; to cooperate with the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia and American Bar Associations; and to do all things necessary and appropriate for the operation of a voluntary bar association; and

WHEREAS, since 1969, the Arlington County Bar Association has operated a lawyer referral service to assist the public in obtaining legal counsel by recommending qualified attorneys who specialize in the fields of law in which a citizen needs help; and

WHEREAS, through the dedication and professionalism of its members, the Arlington County Bar Association has rendered invaluable service to the Arlington County community for 75 years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Arlington County Bar Association on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Raymond B. Benzinger, president of the Arlington County Bar Association, as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for the association's 75 years of service to the citizens of Arlington County.
