WHEREAS, Nancy C. Holmes of Chesapeake, a retired teacher’s aid for the Norfolk public schools, died on October 12, 2000; and
WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Nancy Holmes was the widow of William Holmes and was the matriarch of a large family that includes four children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Holmes was an active and devoted member of New Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, where she was a member of the Usher Board; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Holmes was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the I.B.P.O. Elks of the World, Inc., and the Daughters of Isis Arabian Temple No. 12; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Holmes will be sorely missed by her large and loving family, by her many friends in the Hampton Roads community, and by the parishioners of New Calvary Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Nancy C. Holmes; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Nancy C. Holmes as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
