HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 576 Requesting the Secretary of Transportation, the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the County of Fairfax, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, LINK, the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, the Dulles Corridor Task Force, local elected officials, and Reston community and business leaders to continue working together to ensure that a coordinated transportation plan is implemented for the Reston community.

WHEREAS, representatives of the community of Reston have worked together in a Reston 2000 Task Force to identify goals for the community in many areas including transportation; and

WHEREAS, a committee working under the direction of the Secretary of Transportation as requested in House Joint Resolution No. 542 (1999) developed short-term and long-term transportation improvements affecting the Reston area; and

WHEREAS, the Dulles Corridor Task Force has developed a four-phase plan for extending rail service from Falls Church through Reston to Dulles Airport; and

WHEREAS, Reston continues to grow as a major center of business, commercial and residential activity with its 15.3 million square feet of commercial space being the second greatest concentration in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, there continues to be a need for coordinating the transportation improvements for the Reston community; and

WHEREAS, under Senate Joint Resolution No. 193 (2000) and House Joint Resolution No. 166 (2000) considerable strides have been made toward addressing Reston's many and intractable transportation difficulties, but much more urgently needs to be done; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Secretary of Transportation, the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the County of Fairfax, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, LINK, the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, the Dulles Corridor Task Force, local elected officials, and Reston community and business leaders be requested to continue working together to ensure that a coordinated transportation plan is implemented for the Reston community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit copies of this resolution to the Secretary of Transportation, the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, the Director of the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the County Executive of the County of Fairfax, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Director of LINK, the Chairman of the Dulles Corridor Task Force, and the President of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter.
