015284888Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 37.1-62.1 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 37.1-62.1. Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Commission; membership; duties.
The Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Commission shall consist of fourteen members appointed by the Governor for two-year terms, six of whom shall be members of the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, and eight of whom shall be professionals, one each from the fields of medicine, nursing, mental health, aging, social services, forensic medicine and two other areas related to the healing arts. The Governor shall designate a member of the Commission to serve as chairman.
The Commission, serving in an advisory capacity to the Secretary of Health and
Human Resources, shall develop a plan for recommend funding local initiatives
for services to victims of, statutory and regulatory changes, and [
voluntary best care practices to serve such other issues that the
Commission feels would assist ] people with Alzheimer's disease and related
disorders and their caregivers. The Commission shall submit the plan
recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Resources by
September 1 of each year and shall submit a progress report annually. The Commission
shall develop criteria for establishing priorities and evaluating programs
which that [ are funded in accordance with the Commission's plan
recommendations the Commission has recommended ]. Such criteria shall encourage
flexibility and innovation in the programs. The Commission shall facilitate the exchange of
information on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
