Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-746.001 as follows:

§ 46.2-746.001. Special license plates for persons awarded the prisoner of war medal; fees.

On receipt of an application and written evidence from one of the armed forces that the applicant has been awarded the prisoner of war medal, the Commissioner shall issue to the applicant special license plates whose design incorporates a representation of the prisoner of war medal. No fee shall be charged for license plates issued under the provisions of this section.

The provisions of subdivisions 1 and 2 of subsection B of § 46.2-725 shall not apply to license plates issued under this section.
