AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-215.1, relating to the information regarding procedures and rights relating to special education placement and withdrawal.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-215.1 as follows:

§22.1-215.1. Information regarding procedures and rights relating to special education placement and withdrawal.

Effective, July 1, 2001, the Board of Education shall publicize and disseminate to parents of students who are enrolled in special education programs or for whom a special education placement has been recommended information regarding current federal law and regulation addressing procedures and rights related to the placement and withdrawal of children in special education.

2. That the Superintendent of Public Instruction shall apprise local school boards of the provisions of this act by Superintendent's Administrative Memorandum no later than 30 days after its enactment.
