2001 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 18.2-178 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 18.2-178. Obtaining money or signature, etc., by false pretense.
If any person obtain, by any false pretense or token, from any person, with
intent to defraud, money, a gift certificate or other property which that may
be the subject of larceny, he shall be deemed guilty of larceny thereof; or if
he obtain, by any false pretense or token, with such intent, the signature of
any person to a writing, the false making whereof would be forgery, he shall be
guilty of a Class 4 felony.
2. That the provisions of this act may result in a net increase in periods of imprisonment in state correctional facilities. Pursuant to § 30-19.1:4, the estimated amount of the necessary appropriation is $0.
