SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Certain health professional credentials. Requires the medical director who is the employee of a utilization review organization to be licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth. Also clarifies that a "peer of a health care provider" and a "physician advisor" be licensed in the Commonwealth or in another state with comparable licensing requirements to Virginia.

SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:

Certain health professional credentials. Requires any employee who makes a final adverse decision regarding the medical necessity or appropriateness of any diagnosis, course of treatment or care of a patient when such diagnosis, course of treatment or care has been rendered by a health professional regulated by a health regulatory board within the Department of Health Professions to hold a valid certificate, license or registration issued by the relevant Virginia health regulatory board. This provision will not affect the scope of practice of any person certified, licensed or registered by a health regulatory board and must not be construed to apply to workers' compensation.
