SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Designation of race or ethnicity by public elementary school students. Prohibits school board employees administering tests or other assessment instruments from requiring any public elementary school students being tested to disclose their race or ethnicity on any such tests. This provision will not prevent relevant school division personnel from obtaining such information from the students' permanent records and placing this information on the test or assessment instrument.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Designation of race or ethnicity by public school students. Requires school board employees administering tests or other assessment instruments to disclose to the public school students being tested that such students are not required to respond to any inquiry regarding their race or ethnicity on any such test or instrument, and that they may respond to any such inquiry by indicating "other."
