Commending Robert J. Grey, Jr.

WHEREAS, Robert J. Grey, Jr., a Richmond lawyer, won election to a two-year term as chairman of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates, the second-highest ranking position in the association; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the Washington and Lee College of Law, Robert Grey is a vice president of the Richmond law firm of LeClair Ryan; and

WHEREAS, from 1982 to 1985, Robert Grey served as chairman of the Commonwealth’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board; and

WHEREAS, active in the American Bar Association for many years, Robert Grey served for four years on the association’s Committee on Rules and Calendar and chaired the Select Committee of the House; and

WHEREAS, Robert Grey is in line to become the first Virginia president of the American Bar Association since Lewis F. Powell, Jr., in 1964-65; and

WHEREAS, Robert Grey is the first African-American to serve as chairman of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates, and would become the first to serve as president of the association; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Robert J. Grey, Jr., for his ascendancy into the top leadership positions of the American Bar Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert J. Grey, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes.
