WHEREAS, James Ellyson “Jimmy” Jones of Roanoke, a World War II veteran and a former member of the Roanoke City Council, died on March 12, 1999; and

WHEREAS, a 1940 graduate of Jefferson High School, Jimmy Jones served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, when he was stationed in India and flew in the China-India-Burma theater; and

WHEREAS, a longtime employee of the Appalachian Power Company, Jimmy Jones retired as an executive assistant following 48 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Jimmy Jones was a member of the Roanoke City Council for six years and was an active member of the South Roanoke United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, James Ellyson “Jimmy” Jones leaves a lasting legacy of service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine citizen of Roanoke, James Ellyson “Jimmy” Jones; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Ellyson “Jimmy” Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
