SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 50
Commending Granby High School.

WHEREAS, seventeen architectural drawing students at Granby High School have joined efforts with the United States Navy to form an educational partnership to design and provide architectural drawings for three new conference rooms at the new Atlantic Fleet Technical Support Center; and

WHEREAS, this unique partnership will give third-year students in Tech Prep classes at Granby hands-on experience in their chosen field and the opportunity to see a project through from design to construction; and

WHEREAS, the project has received an "exemplary business partnership award" from the Virginia Council on Vocational Education; and

WHEREAS, aided by Granby's state-of-the-art computer laboratory for architectural drawing, the students designed the changes, prepared a complete set of architectural drawings for the project, and then gave Navy representatives a PowerPoint multimedia presentation of the finished plans; and

WHEREAS, after review by the Navy, the students incorporated the requested minor design changes, perfected their original design and gave a final presentation to the Navy; and

WHEREAS, some students even joined construction crews during the summer months to see the project through from design to construction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Granby High School for its innovative project to give students hands-on experience in their chosen field while assisting the United States Navy and providing a working model for other schools to emulate; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Granby High School as an expression of the General Assembly's commendation for this unique project.
