WHEREAS, Mary M. Wilson of Norfolk, a lay missionary and one of the founders of the Trinity Church of God in Christ, died on June 10, 1999, at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, a native of Southampton County, Mary M. Wilson’s early life was centered around the Cedar Grove Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, following her marriage, Mary M. Wilson moved with her husband and their two sons to Norfolk, where she became active in the Church of God in Christ; and

WHEREAS, the late Bishop D. L. Williams noticed Mary M. Wilson’s deep spirituality and leadership and bestowed upon her a missionary license; and

WHEREAS, with her late husband, Mary M. Wilson worked and formed a mission that later became the Trinity Church of God in Christ in Lindenwood; and

WHEREAS, a highly respected citizen and a leader in her church, Mary M. Wilson will be sorely missed by her loving family, by the parishioners of the Trinity Church of God in Christ, and by her many friends in the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Mary M. Wilson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mary M. Wilson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
