On the death of Donald W. Farmer.

WHEREAS, Donald W. Farmer of Amherst County, an exceptionally capable and popular administrator with the Nelson County public schools, died as the result of a tragic accident on February 18, 2000; and

WHEREAS, a native of Lynchburg, Donald Farmer earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lynchburg College and began his teaching career at Big Island Elementary School in Bedford County; and

WHEREAS, moving to the Nelson County public schools in 1977, Donald Farmer served as principal at Schuyler, Rockfish Valley, Lovingston, and Ryan Elementary Schools; and

WHEREAS, Donald Farmer was named assistant principal at the new Rockfish River Elementary School in August of 1999, where he was instrumental in assembling the staff and ensuring the school got off to a successful start; and

WHEREAS, an able administrator, Donald Farmer was popular among his fellow professionals and especially among the students he supervised, successfully combining his administrative duties with respect for the staff and genuine affection and concern for the students; and

WHEREAS, Donald Farmer leaves a lasting and enviable legacy that lives on in the thousands of young people whose lives he touched, guided, and improved; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely passing of a dedicated and effective educator, Donald W. Farmer; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Donald W. Farmer as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
