WHEREAS, Senator Jane H. Woods served with distinction as a member of the Joint Commission on Health Care, including two years as vice-chairman; and

WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care was created by the 1992 Session of the General Assembly to continue the work of the Commission on Health Care for All Virginians; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Joint Commission on Health Care is to study, report, and make recommendations on all areas of health care provision, regulation, insurance, liability, licensing, and delivery of health care services; and

WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care works to ensure that the most cost-effective and efficacious means of delivery of health care services are adopted so that the greatest number of Virginians receive quality health care; and

WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care encourages the development of uniform policies and services to ensure the availability of high quality, affordable, and accessible health services; and

WHEREAS, Senator Woods provided leadership in many critical health care issues including the State Children's Health Insurance Program, the certificate of public need program, and the Commonwealth's system for trauma care; and

WHEREAS, Senator Woods served as the chairman of the Joint Commission on Health Care's Long-Term Care Subcommittee and provided outstanding leadership in improving the quality and accessibility for long-term care and aging services; and

WHEREAS, Senator Woods devoted countless hours to analyzing, evaluating, and addressing the many health care issues studied by the Joint Commission on Health Care; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the 2000 Session of the Virginia General Assembly commend the vision, dedication, and commitment to improving the health status of all Virginians exhibited by Senator Jane H. Woods; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Senator Jane H. Woods as an expression of the General Assembly's sincere appreciation for her outstanding service and accomplishments.
