WHEREAS, Brenda Barrow, a math resource teacher at Monroe Elementary School, was chosen as her school division's "Teacher of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, known as the "Math Lady," Brenda Barrow uses unconventional teaching methods to entice students and to make mathematics fun; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Barrow sometimes wears costumes, has created more than 70 songs about math, and is always available to teach parents how to help students with their math homework; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Barrow's methods make learning fun and help students to visualize and grasp basic mathematical concepts; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Barrow, a graduate of Radford University and former teacher in Newport News, Norfolk, and Chesterfield County was named a state-level finalist in the National Science Foundation's 1998 Presidential Awards Program for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Brenda Barrow on being chosen Teacher of the Year in her school division; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brenda Barrow as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her work and for her dedication in instilling a love for mathematics among her students.
