005066480WHEREAS, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson of Norfolk, a church leader and the longtime pastor of the Trinity Church of God in Christ, died on May 21, 1999; and
WHEREAS, a native Virginian, Harvey Alexander Wilson was born in Southampton County on June 5, 1896; and
WHEREAS, his childhood centered on the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson married Mary Madeline McNeal and moved to Franklin, where their first son was born; and
WHEREAS, a 25-year employee of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson joined the Church of God in Christ and studied for many years under the late D. Lawrence Williams; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson founded the Trinity Church of God in Christ in the Lindenwood section of Norfolk and served faithfully as pastor for many years; and
WHEREAS, a highly respected citizen of Norfolk and a longtime leader in his church, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson will be sorely missed by his parishioners at the Trinity Church of God in Christ and by his countless friends and admirers in the Hampton Roads community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Harvey Alexander Wilson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
