2000 SESSION
007295988WHEREAS, the Commissioners for Promotion of Uniformity of Legislation are required by §9-50 of the Code of Virginia to examine subjects on which uniformity of laws between the various states is desirable and ascertain the best means to effect uniformity in the laws of the states; and
WHEREAS, the Commissioners are required to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia in conventions of like Commissioners appointed by other states to consider and draft uniform laws to be submitted for adoption by the several states; and
WHEREAS, it would be of great benefit to many citizens of Virginia who are permitted or licensed in Virginia to carry a concealed weapon to be able to move through the various states knowing that they are not violating local or state statutes; and
WHEREAS, Virginia has adopted a comprehensive concealed weapons permit and licensing statute that has been refined over several years that should serve as a model for other states to follow; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Virginia Commissioners for Promotion of Uniformity of Legislation are requested to encourage the National Conference of the Commissioners for Promotion of Uniformity of Legislation to establish a special committee to develop a model act relating to concealed handgun permits and licenses, and
RESOLVED, FURTHER, that one or more of the Virginia Commissioners seek to be placed on the special committee and strongly suggest and support that Virginia's current concealed weapon statute be the special committee's guide for its work.
