WHEREAS, Carla Graube, a senior at Courtland High School in Spotsylvania County, has been chosen as one of five students to represent the United States at the World Debate Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in February 2000; and

WHEREAS, captain of her high school debate team, Carla Graube has qualified for and participated in the Grand National Debate Tournament for two of the past three years; and

WHEREAS, under the coaching of Scott R. Miller, Carla Graube has spent countless hours poring over volumes of information in order to be able to anticipate and counter her opponents' positions; and

WHEREAS, with Carla Graube's efforts, the United States team finished in ninth place among 28 teams from around the world; and

WHEREAS, the tremendous discipline and dedication that have gone into her stellar achievements bode well for Carla Graube's future and reflect well on both Spotsylvania County and the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Carla Graube for her achievement in being selected as a member of the United States Debate Team; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carla Graube in recognition of her outstanding achievements.
