WHEREAS, for the past several years, Linda Jones Bass has devoted much of her considerable energy and talent to the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, which serves nearly 16,000 Girl Scouts across southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, a Norfolk resident and a successful real estate broker, Linda Jones Bass was appointed four years ago to the board of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, and she has since used her managerial, motivational, and leadership abilities to benefit both scouting and the community; and

WHEREAS, as chair of the Council Performance Assessment Task Group, Linda Jones Bass secured the council’s required charter from Girl Scouts USA; and

WHEREAS, Linda Jones Bass has led the council’s fund-raising efforts, raising money from the community through gift donations and through such innovations as an annual Girl Scout golf tournament, which raises as much as $15,000 for scouting programs; and

WHEREAS, Linda Jones Bass has been instrumental in leading area Girl Scouts in community-service projects, such as Bag of Love, which distributes new baby clothes, and the Girl Scout Birthday Food Drive, which benefits local food banks; and

WHEREAS, other community organizations that have benefited from Linda Jones Bass’ volunteer activities include the Children’s Performance Workshop, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the Advisory Board for Vocational Education for Norfolk public schools; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her outstanding leadership, Linda Jones Bass was awarded the Girl Scouts’ highest volunteer accolade, the Thanks Badge, by the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Linda Jones Bass for her stellar efforts on behalf of the Tidewater-area Girl Scouts; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Jones Bass as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her motivational and highly effective volunteer leadership of the Girl Scouts.
