004133480WHEREAS, The youth of Virginia are the future of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, too often, the potential of young people is diminished if they become involved in unhealthy or unproductive activities; and
WHEREAS, the potential of young people is increased when they are engaged in productive groups and activities; and
WHEREAS, the availability of safe, educational, and productive organized activities for young people varies greatly from region to region and from neighborhood to neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, channeling the activities of youth into supervised and constructive organized activities can prevent young people from becoming involved in detrimental activities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Commission on Youth be requested to study incentives for localities to establish organized activities for youth. The study shall consider the availability and quality of current locally sponsored programs to provide organized activities, and the resources necessary to provide incentives to replicate these programs throughout the Commonwealth.
All agencies of the Commonwealth shall provide assistance to the Commission on Youth for this study, upon request.
The Commission on Youth shall complete its work in time to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the 2001 Session of the General Assembly as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents.
