2000 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jesse Davit Funkhouser of Woodstock, a former Shenandoah County treasurer and member of the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors, died on July 21, 1999; and
WHEREAS, a native Virginian, Jesse Funkhouser was a police officer in New Market, Edinburg, and Woodstock from the early 1940s until 1955; and
WHEREAS, Jesse Funkhouser served as treasurer of Shenandoah County from 1956 until 1965; and
WHEREAS, with his partner, Bill Mumaw, Jesse Funkhouser began construction of the Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock, where he served as administrator until 1994 and was president of the board of directors at the time of his death; and
WHEREAS, Jesse Funkhouser was a former member of the Board of Commissioners for Shenandoah County and a former member and chairman of the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, an active member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, Jesse Funkhouser was also a member of the Democratic Party, the Cassia Lodge No. 142, the Mt. Jackson Moose Lodge No. 979, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 2700; and
WHEREAS, during a long and exceptionally productive life, Jesse Funkhouser served the citizens of Shenandoah County with uncommon dedication and effectiveness; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of a distinguished citizen of the Commonwealth, Jesse Davit Funkhouser; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jesse Davit Funkhouser’s daughters, Sandra Dee Funkhouser and Jessica Jean Rush, as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
