SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 103
Commending the John Handley High School baseball team.

Agreed to by the Senate, January 27, 2000
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 4, 2000

WHEREAS, the John Handley High School baseball team won the 1999 Virginia High School League Group AA state baseball championship; and

WHEREAS, in the process, the Handley baseball team set numerous team records, including a season record of 25 wins and a single defeat, the best record in school history; and

WHEREAS, in addition to winning the Northwestern District regular season title with a record of 17-1, the Handley baseball team defeated Sherando High School and Loudoun Valley High School to win the district tournament; and

WHEREAS, advancing to the Region II tournament, Handley won three games in a row, over Turner Ashby, Waynesboro, and Harrisonburg High Schools, to capture the regional championship and advance to state competition; and

WHEREAS, to win the Group AA state championship, the Handley baseball team kept its post-season winning streak alive by defeating strong teams from Lebanon High School and Rustburg High School to win the state title; and

WHEREAS, in displaying leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the district, regional, and state tournaments, the Handley baseball team brilliantly represented John Handley High School and the City of Winchester; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly salute the baseball team from John Handley High School on its state championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Baseball Coach Terry Shickle in honor of the outstanding 1999 season of the John Handley High School baseball team.
