WHEREAS, The Science Museum of Virginia has been dedicated to improving the science literacy of all Virginians, providing education in the area of science and technology through exhibits, lectures, events and hands-on activities designed to make science, engineering and technology fun and easier to understand; and
WHEREAS, to celebrate science, engineering and technology, the National Science Foundation established the National Science and Technology Week in 1985 in order to facilitate programs for schools, science museums, and other organizations; and
WHEREAS, during the week of April 25, 1999, The Science Museum of Virginia celebrated National Science and Technology Week by promoting knowledge of science and technology, using simple and exciting methods, such as the annual "Science Games" which involved educational games about physics and was hosted by Dr. David Wright, physics professor at Tidewater Community College; and
WHEREAS, the activities throughout the week involved the cooperation of the Commonwealth's colleges and companies who demonstrated the use of technology; and
WHEREAS, such programs significantly enhance children's educational achievements and aspirations, influencing them to become better citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend The Science Museum of Virginia and all involved persons for their efforts in hosting the National Science and Technology Week in 1999; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Science Museum of Virginia as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and support for its efforts and dedication.
