000258656WHEREAS, the 1999 Brookville High School football team won the Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 3 state football championship; and
WHEREAS, in bringing home to Campbell County, Brookville High School’s first state football title, the Brookville Bees defeated a highly favored Handley High School team, 14 - 6, in the state championship game; and
WHEREAS, relying on a stout and opportunistic defense, the Bees held Handley’s high-powered offense in check, while controlling the clock and running for nearly 300 yards on offense; and
WHEREAS, in finishing the season with a record of 11 - 3, the Brookville Bees saved their best for last, beating strong teams in the state semifinals and finals after finishing third in the Seminole District race; and
WHEREAS, to reach the title game, the Bees had to travel to Southwest Virginia to play the highly ranked Blue Devils of Gate City High School on their home field; and
WHEREAS, in a dramatic and hard-fought contest, the Brookville team prevailed, 21 - 14, to qualify for the state championship game against traditional power Handley High School; and
