WHEREAS, Thomas A. Bryant, Sr., of Hampton, a founder of the Bryant and King construction firm and a dedicated community servant, died on February 25, 2000; and
WHEREAS, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Thomas Bryant resided on the Peninsula for more than 50 years after his discharge from the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, a 1953 graduate of Hampton Institute, Thomas Bryant founded, with Alphonso M. King, the Bryant and King Company, which established a reputation for quality and integrity in the home construction business; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Bryant was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Senior Choir, the Men’s Chorus, the Men’s Club, and the Trustee Board, of which he was a past chairman; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Bryant was affiliated with numerous organizations and community boards, including the Hampton University Alumni Association and the Hampton University Boosters; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Bryant served as a member of the Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals, as past chairman of the Hart McAllister Community Center, as a member of the Beau Brummel Civic and Social Club, and as a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Bryant will be deeply missed by his large and loving family, by the parishioners of Trinity Baptist Church, and by his countless friends and admirers in the Hampton community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an exceptional citizen of the Commonwealth, Thomas A. Bryant, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Thomas A. Bryant, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
