Commending the Volunteer Center of Fairfax County on its silver anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Volunteer Center of Fairfax County, now operating as Volunteer Fairfax, has for 25 years promoted volunteerism through a network of more than 650 nonprofit agencies; and

WHEREAS, the primary goals of Volunteer Fairfax are to mobilize people and resources to deliver solutions to community problems, to support community-service organizations in their use of volunteer resources, to recruit and refer potential volunteers, and to increase public awareness of the need for and the benefits of volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer Fairfax works in partnership with local government, community-based organizations, corporations, and the community at large to provide programs and services to meet community needs; and

WHEREAS, each year Volunteer Fairfax assists more than 10,000 individuals in finding meaningful community-service opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer Fairfax operates Volunteers for Change, which makes volunteering accessible and convenient for working adults; Alternative Community Service, which places and monitors more than 500 court-referred offenders annually; and Information and Referral, a center that maintains a data base of current volunteer needs for more than 650 registered public and private agencies; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer Fairfax sponsors Family Matters, a national initiative to increase family volunteer activities, and VolunteerFest, a community-wide day of service that is part of the national “Make a Difference Day”; and

WHEREAS, each April during National Volunteer Week, Volunteer Fairfax presents the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards to outstanding community volunteers in several categories, including youth, seniors, groups, corporations, and agencies; and

WHEREAS, for 25 years Volunteer Fairfax has provided all sectors of the Fairfax community with volunteer citizens so essential to the success of community-service organizations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Volunteer Center of Fairfax County, operating as Volunteer Fairfax, on the occasion of its silver anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Volunteer Fairfax as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for its exceptional work on behalf of the citizens of Fairfax County.
