2000 SESSION
006602748WHEREAS, the boys’ swim team from Cave Spring High School captured the 2000 Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship, held at George Mason University; and
WHEREAS, the Cave Spring swimmers returned to Roanoke County with the state title after an exciting five-point victory over the defending Group AAA champions from South Lakes High School in Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, to qualify for the state meet, the Cave Spring swimmers won the Northwest Regional title in dominating fashion, placing in nine events, winning five, and outscoring the second-place team from Woodbridge High School by 171 points; and
WHEREAS, in winning the state championship, Cave Spring relied on its depth, with strong swimmers in nearly all events and especially strong performances in the relays; and
WHEREAS, Cave Spring’s 1999-2000 season culminated in a well-earned state title, a tribute to the talent and hard work of the athletes and the inspired leadership of Coach Christine Mastro; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the boys’ swim team from Cave Spring High School on its exceptional 1999-2000 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Christine Mastro as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance of the Cave Spring High School swimmers.
