HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 442
Commending the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project.

WHEREAS, the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project was created in 1995 to stimulate the growth of Internet, telecommunications, and e-commerce, referred to as the New Economy, in the Greater Washington Region; and

WHEREAS, based in Herndon, the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project has succeeded over the past five years in enhancing the growth of these vital new industries and in merging and integrating the new technologies with the region’s existing commercial base; and

WHEREAS, the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project has spawned many new initiatives and enterprises that have come into their own and are now influential players in the economic future of the region; and

WHEREAS, the Netpreneur Program, created by the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, is now an independent entity, as is the Internet Policy Institute, and organizations supported or inspired by the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, such as Mindshare, the DC Tech Council, and Capital Investors, are also succeeding on their own; and

WHEREAS, during its five-year existence, the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project succeeded in bringing together some of the most successful and powerful leaders in the Washington area to encourage the entrepreneurial growth of telecommunications, Internet, and e-commerce firms; and

WHEREAS, the clearest indication of the success of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project lies in the Washington area’s current position as one of the most important centers in the world for the New Economy; and

WHEREAS, keeping its original commitment to the community and to its investors, the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, at its September 30, 1999, board meeting, closed its operations upon completion of its agenda; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project for its vital contributions to the extraordinary economic growth in the Greater Washington Region; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on a job well done.
