WHEREAS, Delegate Thomas G. Baker, Jr. served with distinction as a member of the Joint Commission on Health Care; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care was created by the 1992 Session of the General Assembly to continue the work of the Commission on Health Care for All Virginians; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Joint Commission on Health Care is to study, report, and make recommendations on all areas of health care provision, regulation, insurance, liability, licensing, and delivery of health care services; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care works to ensure that the most cost-effective and efficacious means of delivery of health care services are adopted so that the greatest number of Virginians receive quality health care; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Commission on Health Care encourages the development of uniform policies and services to ensure the availability of high quality, affordable, and accessible health services; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Baker effectively represented the health care needs of rural areas of the Commonwealth throughout his term on the Joint Commission on Health Care; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Baker devoted particular attention to improving access to health care services in medically underserved areas, including increasing access to prenatal and obstetrical care for women and expanding the use of telemedicine applications; and
WHEREAS, Delegate Baker served on the Joint Commission on Health Care's Long-Term Care Subcommittee and Midwifery Subcommittee; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the 2000 Session of the Virginia General Assembly commend the vision, dedication, and commitment to improving the health status of all Virginians exhibited by Delegate Thomas G. Baker, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Delegate Thomas G. Baker, Jr. as an expression of the General Assembly's sincere appreciation for his outstanding service and accomplishments.
