Commending Nancy A. Creech.

WHEREAS, Nancy A. Creech was instrumental in the creation of the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, originally a local weekend celebration held in the early fall of each year to honor the citizens of Virginia Beach; and

WHEREAS, Nancy A. Creech’s vision and leadership during the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival’s 27 years has been central to the growth of this annual celebration, which today is ranked among the top 10 festivals in the southeastern United States; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival annually attracts more than one million visitors who create an economic impact of more than $15 million annually on the local economy; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival has continued to expand to include a broad range of events throughout the month of September that reflect the heritage and diversity of the Virginia Beach community; and

WHEREAS, supported by hundreds of citizen volunteers, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival annually honors a Virginia Beach citizen who has made significant contributions toward the quality of life of all the city’s citizens; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her years of service to the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, Nancy A. Creech has dedicated herself to her community, serving on innumerable boards and commissions; and

WHEREAS, Nancy A. Creech has been a member of the Virginia Beach City Council and the Virginia Beach Planning Commission, and has served on the boards of the Virginia Marine Science Museum, the Hampton Roads Navy League, Tidewater Health Care, Sentara Health Care, the Virginia Symphony, Sovran Bank, Resource Bank, and Seton House; and

WHEREAS, Nancy A. Creech served as the first chairwoman of both the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Nancy A. Creech’s tireless efforts have immeasurably improved the quality of life in Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Nancy A. Creech for her long and dedicated service to the Virginia Beach community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy A. Creech as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her manifold contributions to the citizens of Virginia Beach.
