WHEREAS, Kingsbery W. Gay, the founder of a successful Richmond steel service firm who was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations, died on November 16, 1999; and

WHEREAS, a native of Newton, Massachusetts, Kingsbery Gay attended Northwestern University and Johns Hopkins University and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserves, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Richmond since 1949, Kingsbery Gay founded Beauchamp, Martin, Gay & Co., a steel service center, subsequently renamed BMG Metals, Inc., in 1963; and

WHEREAS, active in local Republican politics, Kingsbery Gay ran for several public offices, including the Henrico County Board of Supervisors and the Virginia House of Delegates; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving on the Henrico County Planning Commission, Kingsbery Gay was appointed by Governor Linwood Holton as the Military Aid to the Governor; and

WHEREAS, Kingsbery Gay was active in a variety of civic activities, including serving on the boards of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, the National Foundation of the March of Dimes, the Regional Planning District Commission, the Capital Region Park Authority, and the Capital Area Agency on Aging; and

WHEREAS, Kingsbery Gay leaves a lasting legacy of dedicated and effective service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of a distinguished citizen of Richmond, Kingsbery W. Gay; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kingsbery W. Gay as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
