004711792WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen Fisher, a professor at Emory and Henry College, has been named United States Professor of the Year for 1999 by the Council for Advancement of Education “CASE”; and
WHEREAS, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, Dr. Fisher attended Wake Forest University and received a Ph.D. from Tulane University, before becoming a professor at Emory and Henry College in Washington County, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fisher has established the Appalachian Center for Community Service to provide much needed services to the Appalachian region while allowing students at Emory and Henry to put their college instruction to practice; and
WHEREAS, through Dr. Fisher, Emory and Henry has led the nation in developing innovative ways to teach community service and public policy, while integrating the value of community service throughout the college; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fisher's selection by CASE as one of only four professors nationwide to be named Professor of the Year attests to the success and influence of the Appalachian Center for Community Service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Fisher received wide support in the development of the Appalachian Center from the President, the Dean of Faculty, and his colleagues at Emory and Henry, and the Southwest Virginia region, demonstrating the effectiveness of concerted efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Dr. Stephen Fisher upon being chosen as United States Professor of the Year for 1999, and commend him for his continuing work with the Appalachian Center for Community Service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Stephen Fisher and the Appalachian Center for Community Service in recognition of his significant contributions to education and community service.
