HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 399
Designating June 4, 2000, and the first Sunday in June in each succeeding year, as Kid’s Day in the Commonwealth.

WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the United States will celebrate Kid’s Day on June 4, 2000, and on the first Sunday in June in each succeeding year; and

WHEREAS, in Virginia more than 44 Boys and Girls Clubs will join in the celebration by focusing on children and on activities to promote their well-being; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s Boys and Girls Clubs are nonprofit youth development organizations that are affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is “to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens”; and

WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs in Virginia offer programs and services to more than 25,000 youth, ages 6 to 18, in five core areas: education and career development, character and leadership development, the arts, health and life skills, and recreation and sports; and

WHEREAS, the good work of Virginia’s Boys and Girls Clubs is evident in the numbers of former members who are productive, responsible, hard-working citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate June 4, 2000, and the first Sunday in June in each succeeding year, as Kid’s Day in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That on Kid’s Day in the Commonwealth, the General Assembly encourage adults in Virginia to set aside time to spend with a child, to share a special moment, and to create a memory that will make a child’s day especially enjoyable; and, be it

RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Commonwealth in order that she may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
