WHEREAS, Edward Peyton Motley, Sr., of Warsaw, a prominent Northern Neck banking executive and dedicated community servant, died on January 29, 2000; and
WHEREAS, a native Virginian and a graduate of Essex High School and the University of Richmond, Peyton Motley served his country as an officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, beginning his career with the Northern Neck State Bank in 1969, Peyton Motley rose to the office of president in 1978 and was the executive vice president and chief operating officer of United Bank Shares, Inc., at the time of his death; and
WHEREAS, widely known and respected in his community, Peyton Motley served as a member of the Richmond County School Board Selection Committee and was a volunteer and coach with the Richmond County Little League; and
WHEREAS, a devoted member of the Warsaw Baptist Church, Peyton Motley served as deacon, finance chairman, and choir member; and
WHEREAS, respected and admired by his friends and peers, Peyton Motley served as a role model to the many young people whose lives he touched and improved; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of a distinguished Virginian, Edward Peyton Motley, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edward Peyton Motley, Sr., as an expression of the esteem in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
