On the death of Fred A. Grohgan, Jr.

WHEREAS, Fred A. Grohgan, Jr., a decorated veteran and an active member of the Warrenton community, died on November 12, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Fred Grohgan served his country with distinction for 23 years in the United States Army, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1968; and

WHEREAS, during his military service, Fred Grohgan was awarded a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, a Joint Services Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and various campaign and service medals; and

WHEREAS, while a resident of Fauquier County, Fred Grohgan was active in many local efforts to improve the quality of life within the community, serving as treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Fauquier County Crime Solvers Association and serving on the executive committee of the Fauquier County Community Action Committee; and

WHEREAS, Fred Grohgan continued his active community service as a resident of Warrenton, serving as chairman of the Warrenton Transportation Safety Committee; and

WHEREAS, a member of the board of directors of the Piedmont United Way, Fred Grohgan was an active member of the State Board of Community Development and was chosen by the board to serve on the Virginia Fire Services Board; and

WHEREAS, Fred Grohgan leaves an enviable record of distinguished service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Fred A. Grohgan, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Fred A. Grohgan, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s deep and abiding respect for his memory.
