WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Brown, senior photographer at the Richmond Times-Dispatch has covered the General Assembly with skill, inspiration, and humor for nearly 30 years; and

WHEREAS, a native of Buena Vista, Bob Brown graduated from Lexington High School and studied commercial art and photography at Richmond Professional Institute, now Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, following a 10-year stint as a film editor and film director, Bob Brown joined the Richmond Times-Dispatch as a staff photographer in 1968 and began covering the General Assembly in 1970; and

WHEREAS, except for one year as director of photography in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bob Brown has photographed the General Assembly for the Times-Dispatch every year since; and

WHEREAS, in 1992 Bob Brown was promoted to senior photographer by the Times-Dispatch; and

WHEREAS, honored on numerous occasions in state, regional, and national competitions, Bob Brown has been named three times Virginia News Photographer of the Year and in 1989 received the MILEY Award from the Virginia News Photography Association; and

WHEREAS, in 1984 the General Assembly was the subject of Bob Brown’s Capitol Comics, a humorous look at the Virginia Legislature; and

WHEREAS, for three decades Bob Brown has provided readers of the Times-Dispatch with accurate, penetrating, artistic, and sometimes less-than-flattering portraits of the General Assembly at work; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Robert Brown on his long and successful career as a photographer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Brown as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his talent and dedication.
