WHEREAS, on December 20, 1999, Evan Morris, a resident of Richmond, was one of two Virginians honored as heroes by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission; and

WHEREAS, on September 27, 1998, Evan Morris’ vehicle was struck, nearly head-on, by a car on Route 522 in Powhatan County; and

WHEREAS, despite serious injuries to his shoulder and jaw, Evan Morris freed himself from his vehicle and, noticing flames rising from under the hood of the other car, crossed the road to offer assistance; and

WHEREAS, Evan Morris was able to rescue the occupant of the other vehicle, a young woman, moments before her car burst into flames; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his extraordinary courage, Evan Morris was one of only 20 people nationwide who were honored by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission in December 1999; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Evan Morris for his selfless heroism in risking his life to save the life of another; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Evan Morris as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude.
