006483684WHEREAS, on June 7, 1999, the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club celebrated its 30th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club was formed on June 7, 1969, with its first meeting at the Transportation Museum in Wasena Park and after several moves eventually settled at the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium; and
WHEREAS, in order to preserve and foster bluegrass and old time music, all Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club performances are free of charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, with more than 5,000 members, the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club has served as a venue for hundreds of bluegrass bands and has been honored by performances by many a bluegrass star, including Ricky Scaggs, Don Reno, Charlie Monroe, and Jim Eanes; and
WHEREAS, In April, 1973, the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo club began broadcasting live over WSLC Radio and has recorded three record albums and two tapes; and
WHEREAS, for the past 30 years, the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club has provided a means for thousands of people of all generations to meet, enjoy family entertainment, and share their love of bluegrass music; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club upon the club's 30th anniversary; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Richard Greer and the Roanoke Fiddle and Banjo Club as an expression of the General Assembly's thanks for 30 years of good times and great music and with best wishes for the Club's next 30 years.
