Requesting the Secretary of Transportation, the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the County of Fairfax, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, LINK, the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, the Dulles Corridor Task Force, local elected officials, and Reston community and business leaders work together to ensure that a coordinated transportation plan is implemented for the Reston community.

WHEREAS, representatives of the community of Reston have worked together in a Reston 2000 Task Force to identify goals for the community in many areas including transportation; and

WHEREAS, a committee working under the direction of the Secretary of Transportation as requested in HJR 542 (1999) developed short-term and long-term transportation improvements affecting the Reston area; and

WHEREAS, the Dulles Corridor Task Force has developed a four-phase plan for extending rail service from Falls Church through Reston to Dulles Airport; and

WHEREAS, Reston continues to grow as a major center of business, commercial and residential activity with its 15.3 million square feet of commercial space being the second greatest concentration in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, there continues to be a need for coordinating the transportation improvements for the Reston community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Secretary of Transportation, the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the County of Fairfax, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, LINK, the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, the Dulles Corridor Task Force, local elected officials and Reston community and business leaders be requested to work together to ensure that a coordinated transportation plan is implemented for the Reston community.
