HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 113 Offered January 20, 2000 Commending the Frank W. Cox High School golf team. ----------
Patrons-- Purkey, Drake, McDonnell, Suit, Tata, Wagner and Wardrup; Senators: Forbes, Rerras, Schrock and Stolle

WHEREAS, the golf team from Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach captured the 1999 Virginia High School League Group AAA state golf championship; and

WHEREAS, the Cox golfers finished the regular season with an 11 – 1 - 2 mark to capture the Beach District regular season championship; and

WHEREAS, Cox then swept the Beach District and Eastern Regional tournaments to qualify for the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Falcons from Cox High School overcame the hilly terrain, slick greens, and windy weather at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club in Leesburg to capture the state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Falcons removed the frustration of four second-place finishes in the past eight state tournaments by winning the Group AAA state title by five strokes over Franklin County High School; and

WHEREAS, due to the skill and dedication of the players and the expert coaching of Head Coach Stuart Holland, the Frank W. Cox High School golf team won its first state championship since 1989; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Frank W. Cox High School golf team on its 1999 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Stuart Holland in honor of the Frank W. Cox High School golf team’s outstanding 1999 season.
