2000 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 23-9.13:1 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 23-9.13:1. Institutes for training teachers, administrators and librarians; guidelines to be developed by the State Council of Higher Education.
A. From such funds as may be appropriated for this purpose and from such gifts,
donations, grants, bequests, and other funds as may be received on its behalf,
the Council shall establish institutes providing in-service training in the
effective use of educational technology for teachers, administrators and
librarians in the elementary and secondary schools of and adult education and
literacy programs in the Commonwealth.
B. The institutes shall be established at no more than four sites, which may include two-year and four-year public institutions of higher education.
C. The State Council of Higher Education shall, in consultation with the Virginia Department of Education and the accredited teacher education programs of the Commonwealth's institutions of higher education, develop guidelines to seek to ensure that all students matriculating in teacher-training programs meet the standards embodied in Virginia's Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel and have the requisite skills for the implementation of the Board of Education's Six-Year Educational Technology Plan for Virginia.
