An Act to amend and reenact § 18.2-473.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating to communication with prisoners; penalty.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 18.2-473.1 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 18.2-473.1. Communication with prisoners; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any person outside of any jail state or local correctional facility, other than the jailers or custodial officers in charge of the prisoners, to communicate without authority by word or sign with any prisoner then detained in a jail confined within a state or local correctional facility. Any person violating this section shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor.
